Detection and Treatment of Book Damage

How can I mend a tear or damage to paper? How can I repair a spine that has partly fallen off?  Which adhesive do I use and how do I deal with brittle pages? Anyone who works with books is regularly confronted with all kinds of damage and wear. This damage often requires fast and effective treatment so that a book can be made useable again. This course, which is aimed at librarians or archivists, will give you an insight into the world of book and paper repairs and will provide you with practical approaches and tips and tricks that are easy to apply.
Based on the examples that individuals bring to the course, we will focus on practical work and the principles of conservation. We will assess whether an object might require further treatment and should be referred to a specialist. The focus of this course is on practical work, trying out and sharing techniques. There will also be time to become acquainted with more complex repair techniques, for removing self-adhesive tapes, and for finding a suitable cover for the object.
