Box making

This is box making done a little differently and taken a step beyond the norm.
For experienced box makers, this workshop will give you some new tricks and techniques to incorporate into your work. We will take non-standard approaches to constructing standard box shapes. And, we will introduce some non-standard shapes into your box making repertoire.
For beginning box makers, this workshop is a chance to learn some very accessible box structures that are a little different from the norm. We will think about and discuss practical issues such as the manner of opening and closing, hinging, covering, material choice, etc..
For starters, we will construct a satisfyingly simple case with magnetic closure. Then we will make a couple of practical alternatives to clamshell boxes and slipcases. We will make a box that opens completely flat to present its contents, and explore various forms and shapes. Each structure will be taken through step by step, but there is always room for further exploration and experimentation for those who are ready.
