Book and Paper Conservation

Department of Book and Paper Conservation

The department of book and paper conservation offers bookbinders and conservators courses which introduce to the basics of conservation and also give the opportunity for advanced specialisation on the highest level. In addition to courses in conservation of book and paper, the school offers special courses on topics such as the care of books and paper, the history of bookbinding and art history. These courses are also addressed to archivists, librarians and other interested people. Since 1999, framers can find special courses on framing regarding the conservation side of their work. Under the description of each course, there is a section “participants” where you  can find advice for whom the courses are designed.
In order to offer the participants a cross-section of the most highly regarded and up-to-date international conservation techniques, the program is enhanced through our guest teachers. Emphasis is placed on practical work based on internationally recognised methods and techniques. In addition, important topics such as science for conservators, historical binding techniques and ethics are included.
Acquiring profound knowledge to work out analysis and concepts for individual objects as well as performing practically at the highest standard of conservation treatments is the focus of all courses.
