Bookbinding and Design

Department of Bookbinding and Design

The modern bookbinder can find lots of challenges and possibilities in the profession providing that one is equipped with the necessary skills and maintains the "life-long quest" for learning. The section bookbinding and design offers a challenging forum for both technique and design. In a relaxed environment students can focus on specific techniques to improve their technical skills. With an international curriculum, they can broaden their knowledge, compare techniques, exchange experience and motivate each other. Away from the stress of jobs and daily routine, students can try new techniques not possible while under pressure of time or profit.

In addition to classical techniques, like the French or the a la Bradel binding or the handgilding with all its applications, our professional school offers many innovative, experimental trends and futuristic novelties, imparted by the head of the department himself or by guest teachers.

We are looking forward to the collaboration with her and wish her a good start and good luck for the future.

At this time we would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Edwin Heim for his enormous dedication to teaching and furthering the craft of hand bookbinding. His work at the CBL has helped to establish our international reputation for offering the highest level of quality available for the advanced studies and training in bookbinding that the CBL now enjoys. Thank you Edwin!
